Free Shingles vaccine – Zostavax

Shingles is a condition caused by the same virus that causes chicken pox.  Initial symptoms of shingles can include headache, fever, flu like symptoms and malaise. A stinging or burning sensation may appear on the affected area before a localised skin rash appears, usually within 1-2 days of the initial symptoms.  The rash can be painful with blisters and can last up to 30 days. It can be severe in older adults and may cause serious or even fatal complications.

Fortunately, Shingles is a preventable disease and FREE vaccination is available for people aged 70-79 years until 2021. Protection lasts about 10 years.

If you are aged 70-79, and would like to receive the free Shingles vaccine, please contact the surgery on 9456 0800, or book online.
